Small-container & pallet trays

Flat spill pallets for canisters, containers and small quantities (10–109 L, from €68.96) plus KWP-P pallet trays (20–100 L, from €68.66) with or without a perforated grid – BAUER Südlohn type made of rugged PE, for indoor spaces and covered stores.

Drum pallets for 2–4 × 200 L drums

PE spill pallets type WP for two or four 200-litre drums (220–410 L, from €392) – with or without a PE pallet, accessible from all sides for forklifts. Load capacity up to 1,250 kg. Also available as an HDPE variant with a grating (220–450 L, from €489).

Canisters & small containers

For placing 5–30 L canisters, bottles and small containers: flat small-container spill pallets (10–109 L, from €68.96) – a low overall height (50–85 mm), a wide standing area (570–1300 mm). Ideal for indoor spaces, chemical stores and workshops without forklift access.

Euro and industrial pallets

For products stored on standard Euro pallets (800×1200 mm) or industrial pallets: KWP-P pallet trays (20–100 L) in matching dimensions (600×400 to 1200×800 mm). With a perforated grid as a spacer or without – depending on the product's requirements.

200 L steel drums & plastic drums

For one to four 200 L drums: PE trays type WP with a PE pallet (220–410 L, from €392) – accessible from all sides for forklifts, load capacity up to 1,250 kg. For 2 drums without forklift access: HDPE variant with a grating (240 L, from €489). Pay attention to a collection volume ≥ 10 % of the total volume.

IBC containers 1000 L

For the WHG-compliant placement of IBC containers: PE trays type WP for 1–2 IBCs (from €1,273) with or without a PE pallet, accessible from all sides. The collection volume of 10 % of the container contents (= 100 L per IBC) must be maintained. The HDPE variant with a grating (1,100 L, €1,106) offers the highest collection volume for a single IBC.

Hazardous-material shelving

For retrofitting or the initial equipping of hazardous-material shelving: shelf trays with a PE insert (240–1,000 L) in four lengths (1765/2165/2665/3265 mm) – with a grating for the shelf level or without for the floor level. Match the dimensions to the existing shelving – the internal dimensions of the frame determine the right PE insert.

PE vs. steel – when PE?

PE spill pallets are ideal for chemicals, acids, alkalis and AdBlue®, which would attack steel. For diesel, heating oil and mineral oils, both materials work – PE is lower-maintenance (no rusting, no coating needed) and lighter. Steel spill pallets are more rugged under mechanical loading and sometimes cheaper for heavy loads.

Frequently asked questions about PE spill pallets

Under AwSV § 24, the collection volume must correspond at least to the volume of the largest container placed on it – or, where there are several containers of the same type, at least 10 % of the total volume, but at least the volume of the largest individual container. In practice: for 1 × 1,000 L IBC you need at least 1,000 L of collection volume. For 4 × 200 L drums (800 L total) you need at least 200 L (= the largest individual container). For indoor spaces without drainage to the outside, the responsible authority may set different requirements – always check with the Lower Water Authority.
PE (polyethylene) is the umbrella term for plastics made from ethylene monomers. HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is a denser, stiffer and mechanically more robust variant – frequently used for spill pallets with higher load capacities and chemical resistance. Both materials are chemical-resistant against acids, alkalis, alcohols and many organic solvents. In everyday use “PE” and “HDPE” are often used synonymously for spill pallets – the products in this category are all made of chemical-resistant PE/HDPE.
A perforated grid or grating rests on top of the tray and lifts the containers (canisters, drums) off the tray floor. Advantages: containers do not stand in the leaked medium – corrosion and slipping hazards are reduced. Staff can immediately see when something has leaked (the tray floor is visibly clear or covered). When storing containers with a metal underside, the grating prevents direct contact with the medium. Without a grating, the tray is better suited to shelf levels or where the space taken up by the grating should be avoided.
“Accessible from all sides” means the PE spill pallet is fitted with a PE pallet under which a forklift or pallet truck can drive in from all four sides – no direction is blocked. This allows maximum flexibility when loading and unloading. Trays without this designation either have no pallet (they sit directly on the floor) or are accessible from only two sides. For forklift operation, be sure to look for “accessible from all sides” or “with a PE pallet”.
PE spill pallets are recommended for: chemicals, acids and alkalis (steel would corrode), AdBlue® / urea solution (attacks steel), chlorine- and halogen-containing substances, concentrated oxidising agents. Steel is better suited to: extremely high mechanical loads (heavy-duty areas), high temperatures (>60 °C permanently), areas with fire-protection requirements. For diesel, heating oil and lubricating oils both are suitable – PE is lower-maintenance (no rusting), steel is sometimes cheaper for large trays.
A spill pallet is designed for the deliberate placement of one or more containers – with a defined collection volume that meets the WHG minimum volume. A floor-protection tray (type BWP-PE) is a flat, large-area tray for broad applications – e.g. under machines, workstations or as large-area protection. It has a very low overall height and a high load capacity (up to 1,000 kg), but is not counted as a complete WHG collection space. You will find both types in this category.
