Safety cages

Safety cages are simple, lightweight cages that are hooked onto the forklift's fork tines. They provide an enclosed standing place for up to two persons and are ideal for warehouse, shelving and inspection work at height. All models are TÜV-tested and DGUV-compliant.

MB-series work platforms

The MB-series work platforms have a fork holder at the base and offer a more generous, more stable standing area than simple cages. They are suitable for more demanding assembly work where more space or freedom of movement is needed. Available galvanised or painted, TÜV-tested and DGUV-compliant.

Safety platforms with a GS TÜV certificate

Safety platforms of the highest safety level with a GS mark and a TÜV certificate meet particularly high requirements for stability and personal protection. They are designed for applications where increased minimum load capacities of the lifting device are prescribed.

Safety & regulations

The lifting of persons with forklifts is generally only permitted with suitable, approved work platforms. All models in the range meet the relevant standards (DGUV, TÜV, GS mark). The forklift must have the required minimum load capacity for the total weight of the platform, persons and tools.

The right work platform for your forklift

🧺

Safety cage or work platform?

A safety cage (SIKO) hangs directly on the fork tines and is light, compact and affordable – ideal for warehouses and simple work at height. A work platform (MB series) has a fork holder at the base, sits more stably and offers more standing area – better for assembly and tool work. Both variants are TÜV-tested and DGUV-compliant.

⚖️

Load capacity – mind the total weight

The permissible load capacity (240–300 kg) comprises the weight of all persons plus tools and material on the platform. The forklift must additionally carry the platform's own weight (58–120 kg). The required minimum load capacity of the lifting device is, depending on the model, 1190 to 1500 kg – always compare this with the forklift type.

📐

Choose the standing area by application

The standing area determines how much space is available for persons and material. For one person with tools, the more compact 740×740 mm variant is sufficient. For two persons with material, 800×1200 mm or 1000×1200 mm are more suitable. The platform's external dimensions must also fit into the racking system or the work area.

🛡️

Surface treatment

Galvanised: durably corrosion-resistant, ideal for damp environments and outdoor use. Hot-dip galvanised: the highest corrosion protection, long-lasting. Painted: for normal storage conditions in dry halls. The MB series is available in both variants on request.

⚠️

Legal requirements

The transport of persons with forklifts is, according to DGUV Regulation 68, only permitted with suitable, approved work platforms. The GS mark and the TÜV test are the proof of conformity. The forklift must have the necessary minimum load capacity, and the driver must not leave the forklift during the transport of persons.

🔧

Typical areas of use

Work platforms for forklifts are proven for: loading and unloading shelving at a great height, the maintenance and inspection of machines and systems, assembly work on ceilings and walls, lighting and cable installation, as well as stocktaking and inventory in high-bay warehouses.

Frequently asked questions about forklift work platforms

Persons may only be lifted with a forklift when an approved work platform is used. This is regulated in DGUV Regulation 68 (formerly BGV D27). Requirements: a TÜV-tested or GS-certified work platform, a forklift with sufficient minimum load capacity, and the forklift driver must not leave the vehicle while persons are on the platform. A normal forklift without a work platform is not suitable and not permitted for transporting persons.
DGUV stands for Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung (German Social Accident Insurance). DGUV regulations are binding accident-prevention regulations for operations in Germany. DGUV-compliant means that the work platform meets the requirements of DGUV Regulation 68 – it is suitable and approved for the transport of persons with forklifts. The TÜV test mark and the GS mark (Geprüfte Sicherheit – tested safety) are the visible proof of this conformity.
The required minimum load capacity of the forklift is calculated from: the own weight of the work platform (58–120 kg depending on the model) + the weight of the persons + the weight of tools and material. In addition, there is a safety factor – the minimum load capacity of the lifting device is, depending on the model, 1190 to 1500 kg. This means: even if the total weight of the platform and persons is only 300 kg, the forklift must have a considerably higher rated load. Always check the minimum load capacity specification in the product data sheet.
The GS mark (Geprüfte Sicherheit – tested safety) is a German test mark under § 21 ProdSG (Product Safety Act) – it certifies that the product meets the fundamental safety requirements and has been tested by an approved testing body. The TÜV test is a test by the TÜV as a technical monitoring organisation – the TÜV test mark proves conformity with the technical standards. Many work platforms bear both marks. Both are recognised proof of safety conformity for operational use.
In principle, the work platforms are suitable for forklifts with standard fork tines. What is decisive: the minimum load capacity of the forklift must meet the specified requirement (1190–1500 kg depending on the model). The fork-tine length and width must fit the platform's fork holder. For unusual forklift fork dimensions or special forklifts, be sure to compare the technical data beforehand. If in doubt, we are happy to advise you.
For outdoor use and damp storage environments, we recommend hot-dip galvanised or galvanised versions – they offer lasting corrosion protection without regular maintenance effort. Hot-dip galvanising is the most durable and robust variant. Painted versions are well suited to dry hall environments but require regular care for outdoor use, since paint damage can lead to rust formation.
