Chip containers for forklifts SKW-ET · SGU · SKM · S3S – 250 L to 2 m³ · with sieve & oil drain cock

Chip containers for the professional collection and disposal of metal and wood chips from machining centres – with and without liquid separation. Four series: box trolley SKW-ET (ground-level emptying, sieve, wheels), tipping chip container SGU (up to 2 m³, up to 1500 kg), SKM (oil-/water-tight, sieve + oil drain cock, tiltable by cable pull from the forklift seat) and S3S (tips to three sides).

✅ 250 L to 2 m³ capacity ✅ Sieve plate & oil drain cock (SKW-ET, SKM) ✅ Load capacities up to 1500 kg (SGU) ✅ Oil- & water-tight · galvanised or painted

SKW-ET – box trolley with sieve & wheels

The SKW-ET box trolleys (250–1000 litres) are oil- and water-tight, have an integrated sieve plate for separating liquid and solid, and a drain cock. With wheels and a push handle they are mobile – can be filled at the machine and set down via forklift fork pockets. Ground-level emptying. The cheapest entry-level series from €748.

SGU – tipping chip container up to 2 m³

The SGU series (0.3–2 m³) are classic tipping chip containers for the forklift – without a sieve, for high load capacities up to 1500 kg. They collect chips and are tipped by forklift into a large container or a press. In 6 sizes with a uniform overall size and high load capacities for metal chips.

SKM – oil-tight with cable tipping from the forklift seat

The SKM (0.3–0.75 m³) combines oil- and water-tightness with a sieve plate and a 1" drain cock for liquid separation – and can be tipped at any height by cable pull from the forklift seat without the driver having to get out. Wheels and a push handle for ground-level mobility. The most convenient solution for oily chips.

S3S – tips to three sides

The S3S chip containers (0.3–0.6 m³) can be tipped to three sides – for maximum flexibility in the emptying position. Particularly useful when the target container cannot always be approached from the same direction or several discharge positions are in use.

⚙️

Which series for which use?

SKW-ET: mobile, fillable at the machine, sieve + drain cock – for operations that want to recover coolant and move the container just as easily by hand. SGU: pure tipping collection point, high load capacities – for large quantities of chips without oil recovery. SKM: like the SKW-ET, but additionally tiltable by cable pull from the forklift seat. S3S: like the SGU, but with a 3-sided tipping function.

💧

Sieve plate & oil drain cock – why important?

In metal machining, in addition to the chips there is always cooling lubricant (coolant, cutting oil) – often 10–30% of the total weight of the container. The sieve plate separates liquid and solid automatically. The 1" drain cock lets the collected oil/coolant off in a controlled way – for reuse or disposal. Containers without a sieve lose this coolant uncontrolled during tipping.

🎯

SKM – cable tipping explained

The SKM can be "tipped at any height by cable pull from the forklift seat" – the driver positions the container over the target container, pulls the cable and the container tips. No getting out needed, no handling of the container. Combined with the favourable centre of gravity and the wheels for ground-level handling, the SKM is the most convenient solution for oily chips.

⚖️

Load capacities – metal chips are heavy

Metal chips have very different bulk densities: aluminium chips ~400–800 kg/m³, steel chips (loose) ~800–1500 kg/m³, cast-iron chips ~2000–3000 kg/m³. With steel chips, 1 m³ can already weigh 1500 kg – the full load capacity of the SGU 100. Always check bulk density × volume against the load capacity and do not fill fully with heavy metals.

🔄

Ground-level vs. tipping emptying

The SKW-ET empties at ground level – the low pouring edge (680 mm) enables transfer into other containers or directly onto conveyor belts without lifting. All other series (SGU, SKM, S3S) are lifted by forklift and tipped over the target container. Ground-level emptying is more practical at the machine; tipping emptying by forklift is more efficient for container removal.

🛡️

Oil- & water-tightness – what does it mean?

Oil- and water-tight containers (SKW-ET, SKM) have welded, tight tubs without leaks. This prevents coolant or oil from escaping during transport – important for clean hall floors and environmental protection. Non-oil-tight containers (SGU, S3S) are designed for dry chips or goods without adhering liquids. For oily chips from CNC machines, always choose the oil-tight variant.

Frequently asked questions about chip containers

SKW-ET: box trolley with sieve plate, drain cock, wheels and ground-level emptying – for direct filling at the machine and easy handling without a forklift. SGU: classic tipping chip container for the forklift, high load capacities up to 1500 kg, no sieve – for dry or already separated chips. SKM: like the SKW-ET (sieve + drain cock) but tiltable by cable pull from the forklift seat – convenient with oily chips. S3S: chip container with a 3-sided tipping function – maximum flexibility in the emptying direction.
In metal machining (CNC milling, turning, grinding), in addition to the chips there are always cooling lubricants (cutting oil, coolant emulsions) – often 10–30% of the total contents. The sieve plate holds back the chips and lets the liquid pass through to the bottom. The 1" drain cock lets the collected coolant off in a controlled way – for reuse in the machine or for separate disposal (coolant must not go into household waste). Containers without a sieve lose the coolant uncontrolled during tipping – floor contamination and coolant loss.
Metal chips vary greatly in bulk density: aluminium chips: ~400–800 kg/m³ (light, loose structure). Steel chips: ~800–1500 kg/m³ depending on the machining form. Cast-iron chips: ~1500–3000 kg/m³ (very heavy). Example: SGU 100 with 1 m³ full of steel chips = 800–1500 kg – right at the load-capacity limit. With cast iron and a small chip volume (compact chips), never fill fully. Always match the load capacity with the real fill weight. When in doubt, fill to under 70%.
Yes – the SKW-ET has 2 wheels + 1 swivel castor (from 600 litres, 2 swivel castors) with a locking function and a push handle. It can be rolled by hand like a wheelbarrow or a trolley – directly from machine to machine or to the collection point. For placing into a large container or lifting onto a press, the fork pockets for the forklift are then used. The SKW-ET is thus the most flexible device for direct machine use.
Oil- and water-tight chip containers (SKW-ET, SKM) have completely tightly welded steel tubs without leak points. This means: coolant and oil that get into the container during filling stay in it and do not run out at the bottom or the seams. This is important for: clean hall floors (slip hazard from oil!), separate disposal of the coolant (mandatory under AwSV for water-polluting substances), and reuse of the coolant. The SGU series is not oil-tight and is designed for dry chips.
Metal chips with coolant adhesions are considered hazardous waste (EWC 12 01 01 ff.) and are subject to documentation requirements. Cooling-lubricant emulsions are water-polluting under AwSV and must not go into household waste or the sewer. Correct disposal: drain the coolant via the drain cock and hand it over separately to a disposal company, chips (as dry as possible) as scrap metal for recycling. Chip containers with a sieve and drain cock make this separation considerably easier and help with compliance with the legal requirements.
