Which hand pump suits which application?

🚜

Diesel & Heating Oil

For occasional transfers from canisters, a syphon pump is sufficient. For regular pumping from 200 L drums, a lever drum pump with higher flow rate is recommended.

🔧

Engine Oil & Hydraulic Oil

Oils are more viscous than fuels – piston drum pumps or lever pumps are suitable here, not syphon pumps. Check the transmission ratio and viscosity specifications.

💧

AdBlue® / Urea

Only use special AdBlue hand pumps made from PE, EPDM or PTFE. Urea solution attacks standard seals and can permanently damage the pump or contaminate the solution.

🔥

Petrol & Flammable Substances

Only use ATEX-approved pumps – spark-free construction, suitable seal materials. Standard diesel pumps are not permitted here.

⚗️

Chemicals & Acids

Pay attention to the seal material: NBR for mineral oils, EPDM for acids and bases, PTFE for aggressive media. The Jessberger JP-07 range is particularly versatile here.

Container Size Matters

Syphon pumps for canisters (5–30 L), drum pumps for standard 200 L drums. Immersion depths and tube lengths differ – check the appropriate SRL specification.

Frequently Asked Questions about Hand Pumps

Syphon pumps are designed for canisters up to approx. 30 litres – compact, affordable, for occasional use. Drum pumps are designed for 200-litre steel drums, have a longer immersion tube, more robust construction and often significantly higher flow rates (up to 50 l/min).
No. AdBlue attacks standard NBR seals and contaminates the solution. For AdBlue, only pumps made from food-grade materials (PE, EPDM, PTFE) are suitable.
SRL stands for suction tube length – the length of the immersion tube inserted into the drum. For standard 200-litre drums (height approx. 850–900 mm), you need an SRL of at least 860–900 mm.
For petrol and 2-stroke mixture, only ATEX-approved pumps are permitted – spark-free construction and suitable seal materials. Look for the „EX" or „ATEX" label in the product name.
Syphon pumps: approx. 10–15 l/min. Piston drum pumps: approx. 15–20 l/min. Lever pumps: up to 50 l/min. For regularly larger quantities, an electric pump is recommended.
NBR for mineral oils, diesel and heating oil. EPDM for acids, bases, water, AdBlue. PTFE/Viton for aggressive chemicals and solvents. With Jessberger JP-07 pumps, the colour indicates the material: red = EPDM, blue = NBR.
